We at Linden Engineering have always provided service support for this marque and it obviously fits into our service portfolio as the vehicle as part of the same group as Landrover now owned by TaTa of India.
I have a collector XJ6 and I like its road manners and uncanny smooth ride though the earlier models were a chore to maintain for the average enthusiastic owner.
With the appearance of the later Ford based platforms and Ford’s management systems/diagnostics the task of vehicle maintenance has just got a whole lot easier with the IDS system diagnostics.
Our favorite of course the S type and the V6 engine which is shared in the same platform as the Lincoln LS. Driving one when the car was introduced it reminded me of the old 4.2 S type I drove in my youth. What a car!
The new age S type didn’t disappoint me either; lots of power and a smooth quiet ride. Jaguar magic!
If you need service for an S type in these challenging times why not give me a call.
A few service tips.
If your car goes into limp and you have a generic scan tool try to extract the codes.
Common misfire codes come up as P0300. Multiple misfires
Try looking at the spark plugs and the pockets where the plugs are located. Are they filled with oil from a leaking valve cover gasket? Some of the plugs on the driver’s side can be removed easily, but the plenum inlet arrangement must be removed to gain access to the rest. Do use an anti seize compound on the threads. Spark plugs can bind in the head causing damage
P0304. P0305 P0355 are all coil related and although these are not excessively expensive I have had at times to replace all of the coils to eradicate a random misfire.
A note if you are removing the plenum be aware that it sandwiches the actual inlet port intake spacer with formed/molded O rings.
The slender fixing bolts can corrode and break during removal and securing. Equally it is advisable to replace all the “O” rings once you have the whole arrangement off the engine.
Should you develop a vacuum in the manifold leak it will flag a weak mixture code often on one cylinder bank and the vehicle will go into limp mode.
If you can find the fault we can locate it by scanner and smoke machine the plenum for leaks. A quick and easy diagnostic activity done for a minimal charge.
We are enthusiastic about Jaguar cars, we welcome enthusiasts do call or come by.
